French 1 students study about Paris and its famous monuments like the Eiffel Tower.

Although it is recommended that students begin French 1 by 9th grade or earlier, all students are welcome to begin learning French whether they are in 9th, 10th, 11th or even 12th grade. Once a student begins to study French it is recommended that he or she continue through French 3. Students looking for a challenge are then encouraged to register for French 4 (and beyond) where they can study for the national

French AP (Advanced Placement) test and/or study French CIS (French College in the Schools) to earn 10 University of Minnesota Credits during that school year.

At the end of each unit students prepare individual or small group projects to demonstrate what they have learned in the unit. At the end of the French 1 courses students prepare indivudual French presentations and share these with the class through

oral and/or powerpoint activities. Students must use information from every topical unt in their final project.

Students in all French classes focus on the national world language standards of the 5 C's: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons and Communities. Students practice listening, speaking, reading and writing French in every featured topic in the course and students learn to use French
