Members Present:  Jen Purtell (parent, co-chair), Valerie Atkinson (staff, co-chair), Catherine Farrell (parent), Suzanne Fileds (parent), Bonnie Bellows (staff), Preston McMillan (staff, union representative), Beverly Babcock (staff, alternate), Mike Sodomka (principal), Lauren Rekonen (staff, secretary)

 

Guests Present: none

 

Members Not Present:  Jodi Brennan (community), Joe Laconic (staff), Kari Larson (community), Andy Mosca (parent), Aaron Perrine (staff), Tim Hausker (staff), an assistant principal, a Gear UP representative

 

Agenda:

 

I.                    Approval of Agenda: J. Purtell

a.       Motion to approve agenda made by S. Field, seconded by C. Farrell.  Unanimously approved.

 

II.                 Approval of April 28 minutes:  J. Purtell

a.       Motion to approve minutes made by J. Purtell, seconded by M. Sodomka.  Unanimously approved.

 

III.               Open Forum

a.       B. Bellows:  The 12th grade English students went on a field trip to Ecolab last Friday.  While there they had mock interviews and a tour of the building.  The Ecolab employees gave Ms. Bellows very positive feedback about the students.  We are very appreciative of Ecolab’s participation. 

b.      V. Atkinson:  On Friday, May 23rd 24 Juniors will be inducted into the National Honor Society.

 

IV.              Principal’s Report: M. Sodomka

a.       The Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 3rd went extremely well.  Over 100 Humboldt students and staff members marched in the parade together. 

b.      There will be meeting of the Environmental Steering Committee tomorrow, May 13th.  This meeting will be to finalize the vision and mission of the committee.

c.       There is now a new district capital improvement process for buildings to get funding for capital improvements.  The old way involved schools submitting proposals to the committee.  The new way involves the committee visiting schools to assess the need of each school and allocate funds that way. 

d.      There will be some program changes at Humboldt next year.  The self-contained EBD program (PSD) will be moved to Highland Senior High.  The Deaf and Hard of Hearing program from Highland Park will be moved here to Humboldt. 

e.       Several students participated in World is Flat and Thomas Friedman Friday complement of Travelers.

f.        We are working with SOS to market Humboldt to greater areas.

g.       5-21-08 is Senior Honors Night

h.       5-22-08 is the last Band concert

i.         5-29—31-08 is the last play of the year (The Nerd) 

j.        6-2-08 @ 8PM is graduation at Aldrich Arena

k.      6-5-08 is the last day for students
